CEPAD- 2nd Conference on Economics, Public Policy & Administrative Development

SIMAD University organized the 2nd Conference on Economics, Public Policy, and Administration Development (CEPAD). The Conference was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia.

SU Top management, keynote speakers, researchers, lecturers, and students attended the forum. This conference aimed to bring together researchers and scholars to discuss on topics related to economics and public policy. The theme of this year’s CEPAD was ‘Creating a Better Future for Somalia’.

Eng. Mohamud Mohamed Alasso, SU Acting Rector, welcomed the guests and officially opened the conference.

“We are happy to bring together intellectual researchers, academics, practitioners and students in the discipline of economics and public policy to share their productive, awakening analysis and stories in a lively and stimulating atmosphere. We are proud to contribute to the development of the nation through such forums.” Said by Eng. Alasso.

Our two Keynote Speakers headlining the conference were H.E. Gen. Jama Mohamed Ghalib, a lecturer at SIMAD University and former cabinet minister, and Mr. Mohamad Ahmad Abdullahi, a senior Journalist and content producer at Al-Jazeera Media Network. Both have briefly spoken about Somali Political History in the plenary session of the conference.

After the end of the plenary session, two papers were awarded to the authors of the best research papers. Mr. Abdinur Ali Mohamed, a lecturer at SIMAD University- Faculty of Economics, was presented ‘Best Paper Award’ and Mr. Zahir Mohamed Omar, recent graduate; SIMAD University- Faculty of Economics was presented ‘Best Student Paper Award’ at the closing of the plenary session.

Two parallel session tracks followed. More than 25 experts and scholars began to share conclusive insights and learn from one another. The whole day conference concluded with interesting discussions and presentations of the most topical issues and solutions.

Dr. Guna Sankar, Professor at SIMAD University- Faculty of Management Sciences, commented that the conference was unique and highly successful because of the blend of participants raising questions and comments to the presenters. “This is the real participation”, he said.

The CEPAD is one of the most important forums held by SIMAD University. Since the first successful conference in 2014, CEPAD has itself become a lovely, lively conference.

SIMAD University Research & Development center is always committed to providing such platforms to promote research and development and to advance professional knowledge and standards in various disciplines. The center previously organized other conferences including the conference on Entrepreneurship & Business Developments. All the conferences host by SIMAD University are jointly co-organized by the R&D center and respective Faculty.
