SU Department of MLS was established in September 2016 in response to critical shortage of skilled Microbiologist and medical laboratory specialist capable of providing high quality skill lab in the community, thereby improving the quality of life of the people of Somalia.
Microbiology and Medical Laboratory science (BMBLS) is an integral program that deals clinical laboratory skills and practical procedures in varies aspect of diagnostic labs. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.
According to American Society for Microbiology, projections for the next 20 years suggest that there will be a demand for trained microbiologists and medical laboratory scientist to fill position in all aspects of microbiology and clinical laboratory science.
The demand in our country and entire region will be much higher in Microbiologists work as integral members of interdisciplinary teams in laboratories of hospitals, clinics, universities, and industry. They are on the cutting edge of science.
The Faculty of Microbiology and Laboratory Sciences (MLS) housed in the Faculty of Medicine and Health sciences at SIMAD University, will equip its students to excel in today’s highly competitive field of laboratory medicine.
