About the Faculty

The faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences had joined the ranks of other faculties of SIMAD UNIVERSITY during the academic year of 2014/2015. The advancements in the field of medicine and the lack of qualified doctors in Somalia and the dire need for qualified health professionals dictated the need for competent doctors and graduates who can fulfill the existing medical needs of Somalia.

It is the first medical college in Somalia that adopts the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum; as well as integration within basic sciences and clinical sciences.

The curriculum is oriented towards exposing students to the preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of medicine. It aims to ensure that our graduates have a good working knowledge of biological, psychological and social mechanisms and processes, as well as their impacts on health and disease, based on principles of learning drawn from cognitive psychology.

The faculty’s role, in the society, will be, to contribute to the health and safety of the Somali society. It will also continue to include consultative and research facilities.
