As Healthcare Workers (HCWs) are one of the most vulnerable groups to contracting and dying due to COVID-19, a team of researchers from SIMAD Faculty of Medicine & Health Science conducted a study to assess the COVID-19 vaccination coverage and its associated factors among healthcare workers in Somalia.
Employing a cross-sectional study design, the data were obtained from thousands of healthcare workers across the various federal states of Somalia. The survey discovered that the COVID-19 vaccine coverage among health professionals was relatively low (37.4%), with the major contributing factors being lack of accessibility, security challenges, and literary prowess.
Finally, the study recommends additional efforts to enhance vaccination uptake are needed to improve the COVID-19 vaccination coverage. The study coincides with recently-concluded discussions by the Ministry of Health- Somalia aimed at boosting COVID–19 vaccine uptake in Somalia.
